Meet Cheryl Lewis-Ridener, the Heart Behind Nanny’s Sweets

Hi, I’m Cheryl Lewis-Ridener, the proud baker and decorator behind Nanny’s Sweets! My journey into the world of sweets began when my oldest son was about to turn one. I wanted his birthday cake to be unique—something special that no one else had. That desire led me to take my first cake decorating class, and from there, I was hooked! I advanced through basic, intermediate, novelty, and eventually advanced cake decorating.

For years, I poured my love for baking into school bake sales, often making 15 different cakes at a time. While cakes back then weren’t as elaborate as they are today, the joy of baking and creating something beautiful has always been my passion. I tried to pass down the tradition to my granddaughters, but they didn’t quite share the same excitement I had as a child.

Then, everything changed when my grandson was born. Each year, I found myself purchasing decorated cookies for his birthday, and I quickly realized how expensive they were becoming. That’s when I decided to learn the art of cookie decorating myself. I took classes from a talented baker whose work I admired, and though I initially doubted my skills, I practiced endlessly—watching YouTube tutorials, asking for advice, and perfecting my craft one cookie at a time.

At first, I struggled with cookie outlines, but one day, I came across a simple piece of advice that changed everything. Suddenly, my cookies looked exactly how I envisioned them. Now, I have a vast collection of cookie cutters and recipes, from classic sugar cookies to flavors like hazelnut, salted caramel, chocolate, and red velvet.

I take great pride in the details—beautifully wrapped boxes, elegant ribbons, and designs that reflect the charm of old-fashioned bakeries. More than anything, I want to leave a legacy of creativity and passion for my grandchildren. While they may not have fully embraced baking just yet, my grandson loves to get his hands messy, piping icing, mixing ingredients, and experiencing the joy of creating. I hope that as he grows, he might carry on this sweet tradition.

Even my logo tells a story—it features the initials of my children on the top roses, my grandchildren’s initials on the bottom roses, and puzzle pieces representing my grandson, who is autistic. Roses and hearts, my favorite symbols, complete the design, reflecting both my love for baking and my family.

At Nanny’s Sweets, every cookie and cake is made with love, tradition, and a little bit of magic. I hope you enjoy them as much as I love making them!
